Snow, Y'all....in Six Words, No Less!

It's Six Word Saturday!**

Here in the Deep South, when we get a weather advisory such as this:

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE...UPDATED NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HUNTSVILLE AL 249 AM CST SAT JAN 8 2011 ...SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM EXPECTED TO IMPACT THE AREA SUNDAY AFTERNOON INTO MONDAY... .A DEVELOPING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL TRACK ACROSS THE NORTHERN GULF OF MEXICO SUNDAY AFTERNOON INTO MONDAY. THIS...COUPLED WITH A SUFFICIENTLY COLD AIRMASS IN PLACE ACROSS THE REGION AND ADVANCING GULF MOISTURE...WILL SET THE STAGE FOR A PERIOD OF WINTRY WEATHER. AT THIS TIME...IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT SNOW...HEAVY AT TIMES...WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS ON SUNDAY. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE SUNDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY MONDAY BEFORE POSSIBLY TRANSITIONING TO A MIX OF LIGHT SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN BY MIDDAY MONDAY.

…we know what to do!   Head to Wal*Mart and buy milk and bread…and toilet paper.   And eggs.   Even if we are already stocked, and even though we know our snow usually only last a day or two.   Granted, this particular threat is a little…threatier… than the normal “½ to 1 inch accumulations possible” forecasts that we get.   (yeah, I made “threatier” up.   Feel free to use it.   My spell check keeps changing it to throatier…but…I can’t come up with a use for that word!)

I was grocery shopping early this morning.   Apparently, 89% of the folks around here did their hoard-shopping last night.   No milk!   Of course, everybody at the store was just like me, “This is normally when I shop!   I really am out of all these things!”   Yeah, right.   Well, “yeah, right” for ME, but if that were true for everyone, there would still be milk in North Alabama.

Our “misplaced Yankee” friends laugh at us...after they get over being mad at us.  We know they are not laughing with us…because they are really out of milk, but there’s none available, and that’s why they’re mad.

This morning, when I first arrived at WalMart, there actually was about 5 gallons of milk.   I got one of them.    About 15 minutes later, an announcement was made over the loud speaker that they were now “well-stocked in milk.”   I took a look at the masses headed back to the dairy section…to get one of those well-stocked gallons…of which there were about 20…and about 50 people wanting a jug.

So…it’s time to charge up the camera batteries and the laptop, and make sure there’s wood on the back porch, so that when it starts to snow, we can “hunker down,” drink our milk and keep warm.
